Our Board

John Gilmour

John has served on the Board of Directors of Stonegate Ministry since the creation of the Ministry. With engineering and business school training, John is now retired after a career in investment business. He brings his knowledge of general accounting and business acumen to Stonegate Ministry. He currently serves as Secretary of the Board.

A widower, John has now remarried and enjoys spending time at the cottage with his wife. He has four children and two grandsons who are toddlers. 

John says,I am excited about the Ecumenical nature of Stonegate Ministry and how, collectively, we have created a Christian presence in the community well beyond what we could have hoped to achieve as individual congregations.

John is an active, long time member of Royal York Rd. United Church (RYR), one of the Stonegate Ministry partner churches.

Graeme Quigley

Graeme graduated from the University of Toronto in Mechanical Engineering and spent most of his career with Moore Products Co. in Process Control Automation. He was transferred to Europe in 1991 as European CEO spending 1 year in the Netherlands and 4 years in England, returning to Canada in 1997. Graeme has served on the Stonegate Ministry Board since 2007 and brings many years of business and management experience. Graeme is currently Deputy Chair of the Board.

Graeme believes that, as Christians, we have a responsibility to help those in need around us. Stonegate Ministry is uniquely positioned to effectively care for to those in the community. It is also a ministry that is currently engaged in some very fresh and interesting endeavours all designed to meet the needs of the people we serve.

Graeme and his wife Donna enjoy sailing in Georgian Bay and are active in Kingsway Baptist Church (KBC), one of the Stonegate Ministry partner churches.

Pete Pynenburg

Having lived in the Stonegate community for more than ten years, Pete Pynenburg serves on the Stonegate Ministry Board of Directors as a member of the community.  Pete has what he calls "a fondness for the neighborhood" and has a heartfelt desire to see this community and its residents flourish.

With degrees in engineering and business, this Board member contributes in the area of finance and has worked with a team to achieve the CRA's charitable status for Stonegate Ministry. Pete is currently the Treasurer.

Pete originally agreed to accept a position on the Board of Directors based on his understanding of God's call to every Christian to do good works. Already aware of Stonegate Ministry's impressive history of caring for people in need and proclaiming the Gospel, this community leader determined to become actively involved in order to ensure continuity and progress and is committed to the organization's vision of working together in partnership with others to build a stronger, kinder and more just community in Stonegate. 

Peter Patterson




After graduating from the U of T in 1968, Peter Patterson pursued an actuarial career in insurance. He qualified as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1975. After a number of years in marketing, administration and claims, Peter was appointed President and CEO of the Mercantile and General Reinsurance Company's life business in North America in 1986. Over time he also took on responsibility for the Company's general business, as well as global responsibility for disability and health products. 

After M&G was acquired by Swiss Re in 1996, Peter was appointed as President of Swiss Re's life business in Canada and the U.S. Since his retirement from that position, Peter has spent his time and energy working in the charitable sector, including chairing the Board of Directors at World Vision Canada, serving as Business Director at Wycliffe College, and as Christ Church St James Anglican Church's (CCSJ) representative on the Board of Directors of Stonegate Ministry. Peter also serves on several corporate bank insurance boards. Peter is currently Assistant Treasurer for Stonegate.

He and his wife Barbara have two sons, Andrew and Paul.

Helen Skippon


A resident of Etobicoke since 1973, Helen's career background is in social work and teaching. After obtaining her Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto, Helen worked as a school social worker for the Toronto Board of Education for twenty seven years. After retiring, she established a private practice for thirteen years.

For twenty years Helen was involved with the Christian-Jewish Dialogue of Toronto. She served on the Board, on the Program and Projects Committee and as Chair of the Holocaust Remembrance Committee. Helen has been a Member of Board of Directors of Stonegate Ministry since 2007. She is a member of the Prayer for You team that offers prayer for shoppers, staff and volunteers twice monthly at the Great Finds store. Helen is currently on the Human Resources Committee.

Stonegate Ministry's Christian mission of compassion and love, with its concrete services and rich variety of programs that serve the community, continue to motivate her to be involved in this inspiring ministry.

Helen is married to Ron. They have two married children and five grandchildren. She is an avid gardener and loves cottage life with its opportunities to swim, canoe, and entertain guests.

She is a member of All Saints Kingsway Anglican Church (ASK), one of Stonegate Ministry partner churches.

Horace Knight


Horace is a retired Labour Relations Consultant who worked for the Toronto District School Board and the City of Toronto for many years. He is married to his wife Priscilla and has three adult children and one grandson. Horace has lived in Etobicoke since 1978 and has been an active member of Kingsway-Lambton United Church (KLUC) since 1988. He has been a member of the Stonegate Board for over 6 years. Serving on the Board has given Horace a wonderful opportunity to do the work that God has called us to do by assisting the Stonegate community.

Horace is currently Chair of the Stonegate Ministry Board.

Moira Grant



In consultation with the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Moira works with health professionals across the province developing and delivering workshops, tools and resources that will help our health care system to prepare for and respond effectively to health emergencies. She is a member of Kingsway-Lambton United Church and the proud mother of four caring and accomplished young adults.

Nancye Farkas


 Nancye Farkas has been a resident of Etobicoke for over twenty five years.  She is a member of the Royal York Road United Church, one of the Stonegate Ministry partner churches, and has volunteered in various capacities at RYRUC.

Her first connection with Stonegate was volunteering with the Stonegate Outreach Store.  She discovered the important role the Store played for the Stonegate community, both as a place to purchase reasonably priced items and a place to obtain solace.  Nancye is looking forward to continuing her connection  with this community in her role on the Stonegate Ministry Board.  

Nancye worked as a Secretary in Australia, Victoria, B.C. and Toronto for over twenty years.  She then attended York University and graduated with a degree in Psychology and Rehabilitation Services.  Nancye worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant in the private rehabilitation sector assisting injured and ill clients return to employment until her retirement six years ago.  During that period, Nancye volunteered with the rehabilitation professional association and some community agencies.

Nancye is married to Arpad, a retired geologist.  They enjoy travelling to visit family in Hungary, Australia and B.C., as well as winter vacations to the beach in Cuba.


Sandra Niemy


Sandra is originally from St. Catharines and moved to Etobicoke in 1962. She has lived in the Sunnylea area for 48 years and loves the communtiy. Sandra was an elementary teacher for the TDSB and is a graduate of the ESL program at the University of Toronto.

Sandra is a Master Gardener and Horticultural judge. She is an Elder of KIngsway-Lambton United church and is a member of United Church Women.

She and her husband have two sons and two grandchildren. Sandra really enjoys her association with the Stonegate Ministry board.

Gord Glanfield


Gordon graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in Business Administration. He majored in Finance and Marketing. After graduation he joined the Royal Trust Group and had supervisory and management roles working in their securities department. Working as a fee appraiser at Royal Trust gave him a broad knowledge of construction practices. A change of career found him owning and operating his own insurance agency which he managed until retirement six years ago.

Gordon has been on the Stonegate Board for over 14 years and has had many roles including Chair of the Board. Currently he is the Chair of the facilities committee which oversees our store Great Finds. He also is the co-director of the Christ Church St. James Food Pantry which has served the Stonegate and Lakeshore community for 25 years. He also sits on the board of Agency Council for the Daily Bread Food Bank and also the Food Access Committee in Stonegate. He attends Christ Church St. James and is currently the property manager of the building.

He is blessed with his wife Judy and two children. His two grandchildren give him great joy. When he isn%u2019t found at the church he will be enjoying their year round cottage located in the Haliburton Highlands or maybe even seen on the golf couse.
