Making Christmas Happen

Each year one or more Stonegate families are "adopted" by local business or individual benefactors who will quite literally Make Christmas Happen when otherwise it could never, would never happen.

Here's an excerpt from one family who was sponsored by management and staff of a local Etobicoke dental office...

Note: This family of newcomers to Canada simply could not afford Christmas gifts for their children. Through Making Christmas Happen this deserving family discovered that through the generosity of some wonderful people, they not only had gifts, but clothing for the children, an amazing selection of holiday foods and a lovely tree as well.

"So," I asked, "how was your Christmas? Tears springing immediately to her eyes, this mother of three exclaimed, "There was nothing I could have wanted for!"

Their  young son, though shy was thrilled to engage in show and tell describing at length his gifts and what they could do. He beamed as he showed me his prize - a PSP. "And I got these pants!" he declared proudly pointing to the nice, grey pants he was wearing. Words all in a jumble and helping his baby sister punch the keys of a musical toy she carried, the boy chattered happily about the wonderful gifts he and his little sister had received. Two pretty, little dolls were fetched by Mom from the baby crib: "She won't even go to sleep without these anymore," I was informed with a smile.

Then Mom, who had been listening with obvious delight, rushed off a moment and returned with a lovely perfume set in hand - obviously treasured. "It would have been enough - more than enough," she said through the interpreter "to have something for the children, but" she shakes her head in wonder, "those kind, kind people thought of me too."

When asked what he would like to say to the people who were so generous, the boy replied, "I would say thank you. Thank you very much! This was the best Christmas I ever had!"
