ALPHA - A weekly series exploring the basics of the Christian faith

ALPHA – A program offered in partnership with local churches
 
Alpha is a 12-week course looking at the questions of life. It is an interactive series examining the basis of the Christian faith. Each session looks at a different question and is designed to create conversation. There’s no pressure, no follow-up and no charge: it’s just an open, informal, and honest space to explore and discuss life’s big questions together.
 
 

Amplified

 
Amplified: Self-expression through media skills
 
Amplified is offered in partnership with the Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment. It consists of a six-week program that coaches young women (ages 13 to 17) on technical media skills to enable them to express their identify.
 
The current session is taking place from March 28 to May 6 on Fridays from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m.  The next session will run in May and June, at the Jean Augustine Centre (100 Portland St., Etobicoke).

Anchors for the Soul

Anchors for the Soul: A ten-week series on healing from grief from a Christian perspective. The program runs 3 times a year in April, September, and December.

Anxiety Toolbox

Anxiety Toolbox is an 8-week course for those who struggle with anxiety. The course will cover a number of tools that are geared to managing anxiety. Topics that will be covered include Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy, relaxation techniques, mindfulness, etc. The program is taught by a Registered Psychotherapist.

Book Study

Book Study
 
Every summer Stonegate Ministry does a book study. For example, a recent study group explored the issues of faith presented in Philip Yancey’s “Disappointment with God”. Come and share in the discussion around questions of faith and God’s role in our lives. Please note, you do not need to read the book in order to participate. Each week a summary will be presented followed by discussion questions.
 
This program is held at the Wesley Mimico United Church office, located at 2405 Lake Shore Blvd. West, Unit 403.

CAP Money Program

A program offered in partnership with Christ Church St. James The free CAP program (Christians Against Poverty) consists of three two-hour sessions on basic money management skills. It features coaching and tips in a friendly confidential community. Anybody wanting to get control of their finances is welcome. A meal, participant workbook and DVD are included. Circle of Friends

 
 
A program offered in partnership with Christ Church St. James
 
Women from the area meet for lunch in order to create community and to explore topics that touch on spiritual, emotional and physical well-being. We have an enjoyable time playing games, sharing a meal, and listening to speakers or engaging in workshops. A light lunch is provided.
 
We meet on Tuesdays from 12:00 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Christ Church St. James. (194 Park Lawn Road)
 
Circle of Friends will resume in-person meetings (with lunch) on April 5 2022. We will also continue to provide a simultaneous stream of the sessions via Zoom for those who cannot make it in person. Zoom meeting links will be sent out upon registration.

Christ Church St. James Food Pantry

An agency of the Daily Bread Food Bank supported by Stonegate Ministry

The CCSJ Food Pantry serves, on average, over 300 clients per month; more than a third of these are children. Volunteers make it possible to open three times per month. Stonegate Ministry is a key partner, providing volunteers, supervision, food, program resources, and funding for purchases such as refrigerators and freezers. The Ministry also contributes Christmas gifts for children to the CCSJ Food Pantry Toy Mountain and raises over $7,000 at Christmas to provide food vouchers for clients.

Christ Church St. James Food Pantry operates at Christ Church St. James Anglican Church, (194 Park Lawn Road, Toronto, ON M8Y 3J1).

APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED.

Days of operation are:

  • the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and
  • the last two Wednesday afternoons of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

ESL Conversational English

Offered in partnership with Stonegate Community Health Centre, this daytime ESL conversation class led by an experienced and passionate ESL teacher is designed to create a safe space for newcomers to practice the English language and learn about Canadian culture. This program also allows participants to connect with one another and build community.This program runs every week for 8 weeks at Stonegate Community Health Centre, 10 Neighbourhood Lane, Unit 201. Depression Toolbox

Depression Toolbox is a 10-week course for those struggling with depression. The course will cover a number of tools that are geared towards improving mood. Fresh Start

A program offered in partnership with Christ Church St. James

Fresh Start offers fellowship for those who would benefit from facing harmful habits, hang-ups and hurts with help from Scripture.

We gather every second Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. over lunch, which is provided by the Ministry, This program is held at Mimico Baptist Church (80 Hillside Avenue). See calendar here

Get Reading!

Get Reading!

Get Reading! is a weekly book program designed to encourage an interest in literacy among children and youth through story-telling and book-lending activities.

 

The program takes place concurrently with the CCSJ Food Pantry at Christ Church St. James every second Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and on the last two Wednesdays of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

God, Coffee ... and Me?

A program offered in partnership with Christ Church St. James

This program explores what Jesus can mean for individuals. We take the time to get to know each other and to ask questions based on selected Bible passages. No registration is required. Just meet us there!

God, Coffee and … Me? has returned to gathering at Nimman Thai Cuisine (2451 Lakeshore Blvd. W.) at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesdays. They have also added a virtual option (Tuesdays at 11 a.m.) for those who are not able to meet in person.

Great Finds: High-quality, gently used items

Great Finds offers high-quality, gently used items for the entire family. All items are reasonably priced for all budgets. This thrift store offers discounts on its vintage products, and gives the type of bargains people find hard to resist.

The Hub

The Hub

The Hub is a drop-in program designed to be a community space and social centre. Located at Martin Luther Church every Thursday from 12 pm – 2 pm, the Hub offers coffee, games, and community. Kids Homework Club

KIDS HOMEWORK CLUB

Offered in partnership with Stonegate Community Health Centre.

This program runs weekly through the school year. Children grades 1 through 8 bring their homework and receive assistance from adult or youth mentors, or have the opportunity to practice their reading and writing skills. Ladies' Circle by the Lake

 
Ladies’ Circle provides a forum for local women to connect through shared activities, presentations and lunch. We meet mid-day every Wednesday at Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church (front lobby), 2379 Lake Shore Blvd. West, Toronto, ON M8V 1B7.

Prayer for You

Prayer for You sessions provide Stonegate Ministry clients and volunteers with an opportunity for compassion and caring through offering prayer and a listening heart. Facilitators lead the group through prayer and discussion. No registration is required.  For any prayer requests, please email [email protected] and an acknowledgement of your request will be sent to you. All requests will be held in confidence.
 
A member of the Prayer for You team is available at the CCSJ Food Pantry on the second Saturday of each month to encourage clients to read the program’s prayer guides and promotional materials, fill out a prayer slip or book an appointment for a prayer session.

Prayer Walk

Come join us as we go out in small groups praying intentionally for the neighbourhoods we serve and those we may encounter along the way. Each week participants will be divided into groups of 2 or 3 to pray together through the neighbourhood. There will be a suggested prayer to pray through. We will end our prayer walk back at the original location for a time to debrief. Accommodations can be made for those unable to walk.

Program Schedule: Wednesdays from 10:00am to 11:00am.
To pray through Mimico Neighbourhood, meet at Great Finds (2358 Lake Shore Blvd W) on July 10th, July 24th, August 7th and August 21st.
To pray through Stonegate Neighbourhood, meet at Christ Church St. James (194 Park Lawn Road) on July 17th, July 31st, August 14th, and August 28th.
